Try using a red fish net I got one from Ken's fish to try and it works a lot better than a green or a white net and sometimes they would just swim in the net.

I agree with You Andrew. They don't look like your Mpulungus.
I have another 180 gal tank with blue background but my Frontosas are there.
I am thinking on selling these tropheus and get other type that is not that dark.

I change the water every week around 40% and vacuum the sand.

Like you said, probably is the black background.

I had a group of moops from Andrew's previous group. His looked bluish in the head and the fry were more purplish like yours. I had a blue background, used aragonite, but was on iron rich well water at the time. They still looked vibrant and were healthy, but didn't look much like the parent group maybe it was the iron in the water, but the bloke I sold them too was on town water, and their color stayed the same. Weird...

To answer the question, I would catch my females about an hour after lights out. Put a room light on, scoop up the sleeping beauty, strip the fry and return her to her slumber
