Import of fish

Im not looking for who to contact or anything like that. My question is more on what is needed to get the fish from A (any where in the world) to B (Here in the USA) What is the process or permits one will need or to be clear. Someone in here must have had some kind of dealing with this and what it took to get the fish from point A to point B. Different in each state? I'm in Florida... To receive imported fish from outside the USA you must have an import license. There are only a handful of people that have such licenses in the US. I don't know about the process to apply for or acquire such a license. Sorry.
There are some unscrupulous "exporters" that boast that they can get fish to you from outside the USA as long as you pay up front. These scammers will take your money and you won't get any fish.
The only "easy" option is to buy retail usually, though some US importers will sell direct to you, especially on larger orders. Usually part payment is necessary.

The licence is what im looking for now in details as I found some information base on my state and port in which it will go through. The licence application can be done on-line if needed it and whatever cost as well after that. There is a chance you play, but feed backs from others on their fish that came in from out of town will at least help some what. I read stories on how others here in the USA got scammed with half now, half when they get here as well. Again, thanks for the feed back, Kapa...

Reading this, my main question is what is the reason that you want to import fish? Is this going to be a personal venture to start breeding programs in efforts of conservation of certain species and variants of endangered fish and be able to ship back to other countries in the process or are you trying to create a profitable business of importing fish?

I personally don't have a problem with whatever you choose, per se and it is your right to do as you wish but I would only suggest the prior and would only suggest later IF there was a major limit on what is currently being imported into the United States. I think that it would be a good idea for you to weigh the pros and cons of taking on such a responsibility and frankly what the obligations are to ensure that it's done with the utmost respect for the hobby and community, as well as the obligation as a human to be responsible with the privilege that you may or may not get with this path.

Main reason was to cut out the middle man and getting the fish I want. (I get the supply & demand) The main focus of that drive was me in the hobby & always around fish all my life. (Either fishing or Aquariums) The 2nd fold might be to help others in South Florida who want to buy tropheus other then Dubs. Duboisi are nice, but they are saturated here in the fish farms or net. The ones that have what you seek are not open to the public. If you do find what you are looking for then you run into a few issues. The markup price are insane, they only sell local, they are none available, W/C maybe, maybe not etc...There is a frustration that comes with it and you see it.

I'm not trying to be the Toby V, Peter R, the Burundi farms (when it was running or is it) etc or any fish farms down here. I just like to try something new and also feed what I like because there might be money to be made to keep what I like going more. I'm just a simple man who wants what he wants. I don't really care at this point if the pond-raised or W/C as long as it's the fish I want and what I'm looking for is there.

Endangered fish: A tangled web and one i won't get into but if you have W/C then we all have a stake on what is going on to a certain degree. If this goes another direction for me later on in my life, it was for the pure pleasure of enjoying what I do and for others. I don't get offended that easily and hope you didn't as well.

Yes the "red list" does project a certain situation. Any level of conservation will always entail at least a little collection of specimens from the wild to build numbers in captivity. It would be nice if there was an open avenue to get more selectively bred fish back into the lakes.

I also live here in florida. Segrestfarms has a wide selection of fish but they wont sell to hobbytists. Only to retailers in an effort to get people to support their LFS. They told me if you want this type of fish go to your LFS and ask if they are registered with us ( segrest fish farm) and if they are then have them order you the fish. But when i ask my LFS they they tell me they dont give out any information like that. But they will tell me they can order anything. Well, so can I!!.. Is it available is the real question.. So my main point i guess is that its best to deal directly with the source. cutting out secondary sources saves alot of hassle.
