King of DIY algae scrubber feed station

So I don't know how many of you are familiar with the king of DIY algae scrubber but it basically uses red and blue leds to grow algae on a piece of plastic canvas inside the tank. The goal being for the algae to consume nitrates. So can the goal to be to consume nitrates but also to feed fish? I'm thinking of modifying it to make the plastic canvas part removable so the whole algae scrubber can be moved with the exception of the plastic canvas that is now a sheet of algae for the fish to eat. Then sort of rotating through different pieces of plastic mesh/canvas. Anyone see any downside to this? Is everyone doing this already? Talk about farm to table.

I've seen his channel but haven't seen this algae thing yet. However, I doubt the algae will be able to absorb any significant nitrate readings. Maybe a tiny tiny bit? but definitely not enough to reduce any maintenance (if that was the goal). Just think of a planted aquarium, they will still have nitrate readings.

If you just want to grow algae to feed fish it's probably cheaper to just have a tub of aquarium water out in the sun with rocks/plastic/whatever inside for a period of time. This way you can save on electricity too =)

Supposedly it makes a significant difference with nitrates and phosphates. Imagine growing a plant from nothing to fully grown in a week. That would be more comparable. I have also considered growing algae outside but its cold here in the winter and id like t avoid any unknowns getting into my tank.

The point for me is the food though. The water change will take cut them in half and add nutrients back into the water. However I will be testing and adjusting accordingly.

Duckweed is a better alternative to de-nitrate a tank it multiplies faster than algae and you can feed it to your tropheus too this only applies if you have a sum or another tank connectedto the main tank but the sump is a better option because you can leave the lights on 24/7.

How did you quantify whether duckweed or algae consumes more nitrates?
