Do you dechlorinate your tap water?

After my weekly half water changes I add stress coat to the new water. I know plenty of people who dont. I know it depends on your water, just wanted a general idea if it's useful or a waste. I usually turn my canasters back on while filling it up so the new water runs into the filter and media. Also do you guys add aquarium salt with every water change?

I only use prime on my water to condition it. The stress coat has a ton of stuff in it that you don't need. As for salt I try not to put anything extra in my water that way the fish don't get accustomed to it. Less is more with chemicals and additives is my philosophy

I used prime in the past as well but then switched to Safe. Our water has chloramine so there is no way around it. I do big water change every week so again I have to use it. I don't add anything to my water (salt) & try to keep it simple.

Regarding chloramine, I use a 10 inch carbonit inline Filter. Easy,cheap, safe and out of tank.

I use Prime every water change and have done so for years.

With regards to ph my tap water settles at 6.3 -6.5 , initially 6 years ago I didn't add anything to my water to keep life simple and my Tropheus seemed OK and bred regularly but colours were not that good. Started adding buffers to raise ph to around 8.2-8.4 and find colours are far better and fish seem more settled.

Mike, get Safe. It's from seachem too and you get way more out of it then prime $$$$. If all you have is chlorine in your tap water then you could buy sodium thiosulfate in crystal.

I know Safe is powder form and Prime Liquid and both are good. What's Safe like to use , how much is required for 100 litres?

I don't add anything, I do however let my water sit and heat up to temperature for 24 hours prior to the water change. I do 3-4 25% water changes per week.

Yes, but concentrated. Each water is different. I add 0.75 of a tsp. .50 is fine but just in case I add the extra 0.25
 tsp. I do big water change weekly, 80%. I have started now doing it twice a week. 1 40% & then 80%. My aquarium is fine and the level of nitrate is  5ppm and the most at 10ppm. I just enjoy giving them the best as i'm the keeper of their water.

Directions for 10 g and 50 g:

Use 100 mg Safe (scoop) per each 100 L (25 gallons) as needed to reduce chlorine and chloramine or per 25 L (6 gallons) for ammonia.



Directions for all other sizes:

Use 1.25 g (1/4 tsp.) for every 1,250 L (300 gallons) as needed to reduce chlorine and chloramine or use 1.25 g (1/4 tsp.) for every 300 L (75 gallons) for ammonia.



May be added to aquarium directly, but better if added to new water first. If adding directly to aquarium, base dose on aquarium volume. For exceptionally high chloramine concentrations, a double dose may be used safely. To detoxify nitrite and nitrate in an emergency, up to 4 times normal dose may be used. If temperature is > 30 °C (86 °F) and chlorine or ammonia levels are low, use a half dose.
