How often do you clean you filtration?

I do weekly water changes and have two canasters on my 75. I tend to clean the canasters about every 1-2 months.

I'm running a sump, and as long as I keep up on filter sock changes, I never have to clean mine. That said, I'm not great about swapping them out so I generally give everything a rinse every few months

I run internals and externals on my tanks - internals are cleaned weekly (tried fortnightly but they are blocked if left that long) and externals every 8 weeks. My tanks are heavily stocked.

Hi guys,
I made bad experience with open internal mattenfilter. It is very difficult to clean it without haveing all the dirt in the tank. The filtration and nitrification is pretty good. Current consumption as well. So i decided put six of these mattenfilter in parallel, but in a seperate tank. Advantage is a high flow at the outlet but a low flow in the matten medium. Always enough oxygen for the chain of nitrification and nearly no service because of the big surface. Attached a picture.

I believe that's called a patronenfilter. Do you like that? I haven't had the opportunity to try that but in my mind its the best possible filtration solution.

I clean the stage 1 floss pre-filter in my sump every water change, I clean out the return section about every 2 months

Cleaning will done by the residents. So There is no need to touch the Filter.
