About a year ago I had a devastating tank loss - went away for a long weekend came back to a near empty tank, water soaked into my hardwood floors, my entire tank stock except for 2 fish were gone. I had a 55g already setup as I was using it as a hospital tank so I put them in there, actually added some aquascape and then dealt with everything else. This kinda zapped my passion for the hobby and a few months ago I started to feel it come back. I got another 125 gallon tank, this time not from Craigslist.
So I have thought about going a different route and not do tropheus, but trophs have always been that fish I've always wanted to keep when I had smaller tanks but didn't because I knew I couldn't house them. So I'm going to stick with them. What I'm not sure is what route to go...prior to my tank disaster I had 3 small (15 each) groups of trophs in my 125 and I was starting to run into aggression issues as they matured. With some helpful tips from others on this forum I was managing that but I think I want to stick with a single colony in my tank.
The two survivers are 2 female nkonde yellow, my first plan was to try to find a small breeding group and build the colony up that way with them. However I haven't found any in the US so I'm not entirely sure what to do. Do I get fry of something else and keep the 2 females in their current 55? Can I mix these 2 females with something else? I would like to keep that 55 as a hospital tank/aggression time out tank for the colony in the 125 but I could just get another hospital tank if I really needed to.
