Tropheus and Red top hongi swedens?

I have a nice colony of 8 Tropheus Duboisi and I'm getting 6 red top hongi swedens hat are about 2'' my Tropheus are about 4'' would these make good tank mates or should I put them in with my peacocks ? I don't want to stress my Tropheus out by doing this so I need some good advice please

I personally think that because Mbuna Types have a very similar digestive tract as Tropheus being herbivores that this would be a fine combo. Especially being that the Trophs are larger than the Hongi.

I haven't kept Hongi before but numerous Mbuna. I might recommend removing all of the décor, doing a 50% water change and THEN add the Hongi and fill the tank up and leave it like that for a week until your next water change. Then during the water change add the décor back to the tank. This will reset the territorial behaviors of the Tropheus and put them all on the same level aggression wise.

If there is room enough with your peacocks I would go that way personally. Mbuna are rock & lower water column dwellers mostly and peacocks mid & upper column. They will go well together.

Red top Hongi's can be very aggressive, maybe not now but more so as they grow in size, confidence and establish territories and I wouldn't put them with peacocks personally they're a bit soft when it comes to Mbuna.

I've got two male Hongi in with my Bemba colony, they are the Hongi 'Sweden' variety. They are smaller than about 75% of the group, and both claim a rock pile, but don't fight or show any aggression to the largest Bembas who claim those piles too...they sometimes sit side by side with them!

They very occasionally chase a young tropheus but not very often. Have been a good mix for me so far, and actually have coloured up a lot more since I had them in with the trophs as opposed to mbuna.

Thank you all so much for all the great advice .... I have put them in with the peacocks at the minute so they grow a little bit and then i might consider putting them in with my tropheus .... I have 2 females holding in my tropheus tank so I might wait till that has finished and I have babies ??

I think was a good decision for now. You can get a good idea of the hongi's temperament and then dcide of you want to throuw them on with you dubs later. If your goal is dub babies to increase your colonies population then leaving them be for a while is probably a good choice!
