Petrochromis trewavasae with tropheus

Andrew,I noticed you keep petro trews in a 135 gallon with troheus duboisi. I just wanted to know how well this setup works for you. How many trews and tropheus do you keep in that tank? Any issues with aggression between the trews?

Reason I ask is I wouldn't mind adding some trews to my 125 gallon (6 ft'er) if it is doable.

G'day mstate...Andrew will now doubt answer but the 2 years I have know him he has kept the trews and dubs together...both groups breeding regularly...I have a vague memory of him saying that the trews display aggression toward one another (conspecific) but not towards the trophs. I think trews would look great with your RR's. Are you thinking wild caught or growing some F1's out?

Im open to both F1 and wc. I like the instant gratification of wc though. I really like the rr's but my tank still feels a little empty. If I don't do the trews, I'll prob add 10-12 more rr's to get to 40 tropheus in there. The other option I'm thinking of is adding 6-10 tanganicodus irsacae "kibishi" next time I see them on an importers list. Always wanted some of those.

You could probably get away with both the Trews & the gobies since the Trews mainly inhabit the mid & upper water column and the gobies mainly inhabit the lower water column...I hear they can be pretty mean con-specifically though...6-10 might be a stretch but I have never kept them so it would pay to ask around...happy dayz getting your tank to where you want it!
Do you have a quarantine tank if you get more fresh imports? You don't want to reintroduce anything that would disrupt the RR's again. If not I would either buy wilds that are already acclimated to tank life from someone moving a group on, or go with the F1 option to protect and preserve your existing group of rainbows.

I only have two empty ten gallons to use as quarantine right now. The F1 or established colony route sounds like a good plan.

Good one...yea trying to QT a wild group of 6-8" Trews in 2 x 10g tanks would be a bad idea...
Andrew breeds Trews...not sure what his F1 fry situation is but you could ask him....alternatively Jcunningham0295 has a for sale thread on here...on another site he has some extra wild males he wants to move listed for sale...you could contact him and ask too!

Ah yes I actually had 21 Adult Wild Trews in that tank with 24 Wild Dubs and they all spawned regularly and the aggression wasn't bad at all. I regularly had holding Trews and Dubs.
