Is my Tank Safe?

A couple of days ago I noticed that one of my Tropheus Dub was hanging out by himself. He doesn't swim around that much but stays in the same spot by the rocks all day/night.
He stopped eating also. I removed him from the tank into my 10 gallon and started treatment for bloat. It's been 2 days with him removed, the rest of the fish in the tank are doing fine eating/swimming around.
I'm not sure if he has bloat or something else, but he's not acting "normal".

While he is in treatment, do you think my tank is safe to start putting other fish in?

I think your tank is safe if other fish are doing OK...here are my questions to you..
1. What other fish do u currently have in the tank?
2. How long did you notice the Dub is acting like that?
3. What type of fish are u adding in your tank?

I had the same issue with one of my fish one day and i was worried...i only noticed it for one day, it was in the corner and not swimming at all..i just left it alone and kept him under observation but the next day he was doing just fine! I was thinkin maybe it was his day or maybe he was just gettin bullied...but everything is fine now...my suggestion is keep an eye on your fish and dont be too quick to take them out and medicate..

Hi GMtrophs,

1) I currently have 2 electric yellow, 1 catfish of some kind, 1 guppy, and 1 dub.
2) He's been like that for about 3 days, 1 day in the main tank and 2 days in the medical tank.
3) 20 trophs coming this Saturday.

After two days of medication, he seems to be doing a little better. Still not eating but moving around the med tank once in awhile. He is a new fish, only had him for
about 7 days. Hoping that he gets better.

If I could suggest anything over "anything else" it would be a UV filter to kill off bad bacteria in the tank.

1. Full tank cleaning (i.e. filter(s), substrate, remove décor, lower tank water to 50%, acclimate fish, put fish in, stir up water with hand to put them all on same mental status, fill tank, do not feed for 2-3 days, keep lights off, then feed lightly, replace décor after 2nd water change a week later, run light on schedule everyday and feed on schedule everyday same high quality food for life...

So I was thinking how did the fish get sick in the first place. When I do a water change I always use sea chem prime. In between water changes, I usually add about 1 or 2 gallons of water to top off the sump, not thinking that it hurt the fish. Now I am thinking any water I add regardless of how little should be primed.

I would think that being that opportunistic bad bacteria is in every tank unless a UV filter is regularly active, and that this was a newer addition (If I remember correctly).. It was most likely just a case of stress taxing the immune system and allowing the OBB to affect the fish.

You could run a UV filter on the tank for a week with your new additions as well as the other stuff. That can help. Or run it now for 24hrs until you get your new ones. Then clean the filters really well with tank water and then use the UV filter again after a week for a week.

Or use something like Nitrofuracin Green for a week.
