Good evening everyone! As of today, it's been 1 week since I received my longed-for colony of Ndole Bay fry. I just wanted to make a quick update post on how they're coming along....
After being coached through a psycho-fish-hypochondriac episode (Thanks Danny!!) during which I stalked my tank, awaiting every dreaded possibility that I was certain was about to befall my babies...
LOL ...I'm now thoroughly enjoying them!
They're all doing wonderful! Everyone is eating very good & are very active. I've done 2 pwc this week, the 1st about 20% and the 2nd one tonight was about 40% with vac. Each time they responded very well to it, no shock or such, they even chased the vac around. I made sure to match water temp with the new water & to add the right amount of both Epsom & African Lake salt to keep my kh & gh stable, with my pH staying right at 8.4
Current parameters tonight after pwc:
kh = 17 (same as before pwc)
gh = 15 (same as before pwc)
pH = 8.4 (same as before pwc)
Ammonia = <.25 but not 0 *have sponge from 125gal in tank to help with this*
Nitrite = 0
Nitrate = 10ppm (was reading between 20-40ppm before pwc)
Temp = 77-78
It's hard to tell in the video, but in person I believe a few of them are actually showing a tinge of color... a little yellow & some deep red in the dorsal fins. Maybe that's just wishful thinking?
At one point in the video you may notice the little power-play going on between 2 of them (towards the bottom right). This happens with a little more frequency now with a handful (say 5 or so) which I'm assuming are probably males, they're darker in color & these are the ones I see the dark red on. Let me know what you think.
All said, I'm so very happy to have them & for them to be happy and well. My fascination with them seems never ending...I could watch them (and do!) for hours!!!
