Good evening everyone! Little background on this tank & stand.... My husband (read hero) & I rehabbed this 125 tank a year ago from a man who had it stored at this house. Apparently he had a large iguana in it I believe. It was nothing but 4 walls & a bottom glass, no trim, bottom supports & the seal inside was destroyed from clawing. We picked it up for $50 & hauled it 2hrs back home, where it took 4 of us to put it on a carpeted trolley & roll it into the garage. ( I have all the rehab pics because I was going to post to a forum but their on my other laptop which is being repaired, Ill throw them up when I get it back )
Now being completely overwhelmed with my project, it sat there for the next 6 mos until my husband said okay today we're starting this. We had already ordered a 2in diamond bit so we wheeled into the driveway, got a water hose & drilled that baby 4in down from the top & 4in in from the side. Voila'! I needed a Xanax at this point but it went perfect. Our friends own a sign shop & gave us all the acrylic we could use, so he fired up a hand-held propane burner & decided where we wanted the bend to be then laid a landscape timber on the ground & he heated it until it bent to a perfect 90% angle. Used his drimmel tool to make the overflow slots & off to Lowe's to get the pvc to build our Durso standpipe. (he had already ordered our 2in bulkhead).
Before we did anything futher, we cleaned the snot out of that tank, stripped ALL the old silicone, cleaned it again & resealed the whole tank (he did a beautiful job!) then we let it cure for about 4weeks. After he made a 4ft rain bar return from pvc then we spray painted that, the tank back & the overflow piece with black Plasti-Dip & let that cure 2days. He made under supports, and trimming for top & bottom & 2 inside top tank supports, all painted latex black.
We took one of my old 55 gal tanks & used some acrylic pieces to section it off properly (bubble traps & all) & bingo! one sump.
For the stand, a while back we had picked this wonderful older solid oak dresser that I was going to make my entertainment center in our bedroom. I looked it over cross-eyed & said HEY! Needless to say, we sanded it, painted the outer shell body black. I took the 3 drawers on the left & stained them cherry, the 2 doors with wicker accent in the center I stained cherry with lighter on the wicker parts, buttttttttt the 3 drawers on the right... My husband cut the drawer faces off & attached them to one solid piece of wood, so they look like drawers but all come out together so we have full access to the sump below. I know, he's brilliant! *We're not even getting into the plumbing work!*
Okay, enough enough! Here's the pics of the finished deal (now 2 years old) with my new little guys living it up!
