Putting fry back with the main colony

I have 17 K2 fry they are close to a inch now that I have in my growout tank when is a good size to put them with my main colony ? My breeders are all 3 1/2 inches plus

Hello there.

I have successfully put 1.5" fry back in with a fully grown (5"+ group of 12) wild group.

I would suggest a process that has proven successful for me.

1. Make sure that the tank is clean and adults are hungry.
2. Make a few small piles of rocks (and even fake plants) in different spots spread out even across the tank with holes only big enough for the fry.
3. Float the fry in clear bags so they can seen but not touched and acclimate them to the water and temps.
4. When done acclimating, put food in on one end of the tank and then dump the fry in on the other end.

The adults will be distracted by the food and the fry will have places to hide if chased. I would probably wait until they are a bit bigger to ensure they are 100% capable of swimming away. But you might be good now.
