Care Tip; Conditioning Wild Caught Herbivores

G'day T.A.M. team...

Our newest member Ben, a newcomer to keeping troph's, asked how to condition adult wild caught troph's for breeding. As I have never kept new WC imports I dunno how to guide him. This would be a great topic to sticky note for anyone venturing into wild caught herbivores. SO to all you keepers of WC caught fish lets hear what foods and any regime you use to achieve breeding condition.

Good question.

With any of mine, once they settle in it's best to keep a very strict regimen of clean substrate, filter media and water. Outside of that, consistent feedings of high quality food. a Water Circulation pump on a timer 2-3x a day for both lifting detritus off the substrate and into the water column so the filter can crab it and a bit of current for exercise if you will always helps. My theory is that they don't have the ability to swim 50 yards here, 25 yards there so the current helps to simulate this. Do the above and I think that they should be breeding in no time for you.

And don't worry, fresh Wild caught typically come in a but rough looking.
